Full Mouth Rehabilitation

Full Mouth Rehabilitation will correct imperfections in the bite and enhance the appearance of one's smile.  If you have short, worn teeth or those that are chipped and broken throughout the mouth, then you would be an excellent candidate for a full mouth Reconstruction.  By using the principles of neuromuscular dentistry as well as cosmetic dentistry, full mouth rehabilitation creates a smile that is both functional and cosmetic.

Neuromuscular Dentistry measures and determines the optimal position of the jaw. Once determined, the jaw position is corrected with the use of properly aligned provisional restorations.

The Process

The first step is to have the appropriate records.  These would include a full mouth series of x-rays and a panoramic radiograph, and a minimum of two sets of diagnostic impressions.  The casts made from these impressions will then be mounted using a face bow transfer record.  This gives an accurate representation of the teeth and how they relate to the patient's jaw joint.

Next a diagnostic wax up is made which is a custom representation in of the final restorations made out of wax.  This diagnostic wax up will be used as a blueprint so that we know how things will look before we start.

Once the diagnostic wax up is completed, it can be converted into provisional or temporary restorations.  These restorations will then be inserted into the mouth on the day that the teeth are prepared.  Dr. Sambursky will then evaluate the position of these restorations, and modify them accordingly, so that both he and you are happy with the size, shape, position, and color of the temporaries..

The next series of appointments will include try in all of the metal work, and cementation of the final restorations.  Dr. Sambursky strongly recommends that patients who have a full rehabilitation continue to protect their investment with the use of a night guard.  A night guard is a custom-made appliance which the patient wears when sleeping to prevent the ill effects of bruxism or nocturnal tooth grinding.

Patients who are fitted with dental restorations can expect recovery to be about the same as any dental procedure. The gums may be tender for a couple days after restorations are placed on the teeth. Over the counter anti-inflammatory medications, such as ibuprofen, can ease any discomfort.

Am I a Candidate?

If you answer yes to any of the following statements, you are a candidate for Full Mouth Reconstruction:

  • I have TMJ (temporomandibular joint syndrome)
  • I have loose teeth
  • My teeth are worn, chipped or cracked
  • My dental restorations frequently crack, chip or break
